Slugboy, the superhero you can relate to!

Oh - I really felt for Murdo, the hero of our story. He desperately wants to join the ranks of Scotland's most impressive Superheroes but, after eating a slug on a dare, he has the rather unimpressive super powers of being able to produce slime from his pores, and slide up walls - very....very....slowly. In his home-made costume.

What I loved about Murdo was his unfailing belief in his destiny to become one of the great Superheroes, even though every attempt to defeat a Super Villain ended in failure. At every dangerous opportunity he was there again, fearless in the face of danger and ready to save the world. If you're looking for a book that features the current buzz - growth mindset, this has it in spades!

The other Superheroes (and Villains) are completely scathing of his attempts, but when the master of all Super Villains plots to capture all of the Superheroes in Scotland, will Murdo finally be able to pull it together long enough to save the day?

Both the author @MarkASmith85 and illustrator Darren Gate won Kelpies Awards for the book and it's easy to see why. It's the kind of humour that will appeal to children and keep them hooked, the non-stop adventure as Murdo throws himself into peril after peril, but mostly because he is the kind of Superhero that kids can relate to. He's a completely normal boy, not super intelligent, orphaned, or in possession of unlimited funds to create an underground secret lair or flash toys like batmobiles or robotic suits. Even his super power isn't super powered. He's just like you, if you swallowed a radioactive slug that is :D
