What to READ?

I'm often in my Happy Place (the local branch of Waterstones - if you're ever in Farnham look for the tall blonde in the kids section that's probably me, and people watching as I'm browsing for new treats for my library - (ok let's not sugar coat it, I'm lurking - waiting to shove armfuls of books at people who don't know what to buy!).

Often I see parents with their children looking for books to buy, but really not knowing what to get. It can be daunting when faced with rows upon rows of books with Authors you don't know and so the temptation then is to fall back upon those who are familiar (insert David Walliams here). Yes - I have been known to get a little over enthusiastic and start pointing out books I've read and loved, or know are well loved at school by the children, but I can live permanently in the shop waiting to pounce, so this year I made a What to Read list for our school parents, which I shared on my twitter page.

It's proved useful for many of our families, so I hope that you find it useful too :) Of course I've read and enjoyed more since then, but they'll be added to future lists. So if you find yourself often standing in the kids section, staring at the shelves and not knowing what to buy - pick one of these, they're all brilliant!
